The HCG Cancer Centre in Bengaluru proudly hosted the "Sarcoma Strong" "Right Step First Time" 5K walkathon, aimed at raising awareness about sarcoma, celebrating the extraordinary recovery journeys of survivors, and supporting those currently battling the disease.
The cancer centre in a press statement on Monday informed that this event was part of a global initiative occurring across nine countries, including San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Hamilton, and Dallas.
Held at St. Joseph's Grounds, the walkathon featured a 5-kilometer route through Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha. The event was honoured by the presence of sarcoma survivors, including Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer Karnataka at Healthcare Global Enterprises Limited, and Dr Pramod S. Chinder, Head of Orthopaedic Oncology at HCG Cancer Centre, KR Road, Bangalore.
The walkathon began at 7:00 AM with survivors sharing their inspirational stories of overcoming sarcoma and returning to fulfilling lives. Among the speakers were Ms. Pratheeksha, an MBBS student; Raveena, an engineering student; and Arnold Rego, a merchant navy officer. Following their stories, Ms. Manisha Kumar officially flagged off the walkathon.
Participants then set off on the scenic 5-kilometer route, passing through key landmarks. Over 1,000 individuals, including cancer survivors, patients, their families, and hospital staff, took part with enthusiasm and support.
Manisha Kumar expressed, "The 'Sarcoma Strong' 'Right Step First Time' walkathon showcases the strength and resilience of those who have triumphed over sarcoma.
