In observance of World Diabetes Day, Medvarsity, a healthcare EdTech company, has released a comprehensive survey involving over 3,000 diabetologists and endocrinologists across India, highlighting new trends, challenges, and future directions in diabetes care. The survey reveals a strong inclination towards AI-based training, with 78 per cent of respondents emphasising its necessity for diabetes management.
According to the findings, 90 per cent of doctors believe continuous education is essential to advance diabetes care. Most practitioners favour collaborative learning environments, with 75 per cent indicating that clinical case discussions and peer reviews are their preferred methods for professional development. “Healthcare professionals aren’t just passive observers in this transformation—they’re actively seeking to master new tools,” said Gerald Jaideep, CEO of Medvarsity.
The survey also highlights the top areas of interest for upskilling. The prevention and management of diabetes complications, including conditions like neuropathy and nephropathy, was cited by 82 per cent of respondents as a priority. Furthermore, 78 per cent expressed a strong interest in learning to use AI-based tools, such as automated insulin dose calculators, while continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) analysis systems and diabetic retinopathy screening tools garnered 75 per cent and 70 per cent interest, respectively.
Despite the enthusiasm for further training, healthcare professionals face significant barriers. Time constraints were the leading challenge, affecting 65 per cent of respondents, followed by cost (60 per cent) and difficulties balancing personal and professional responsibilities (58 per cent). Nonetheless, the interest in AI-driven tools remains robust, with 88 per cent of doctors highlighting early detection and diagnosis applications, 85 per cent interested in personalised treatment plans, and 80 per cent identifying automated blood sugar monitoring as a crucial tool in diabetes management.
Commenting on these insights, Jaideep stated, “We’re witnessing a fundamental transformation in diabetes care, with AI not only enhancing clinical expertise but also enabling a paradigm shift in patient care. Medvarsity is committed to helping healthcare professionals bridge the skills gap and deliver optimal care.”
