Artemis Hospitals, in partnership with Pfizer India, has inaugurated a pioneering Centre for Adult Vaccination aimed at revolutionising preventive healthcare in India.
The healthcare provider in a press statement on Thursday said that the centre seeks to address the significant issue of high mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases among adults, a concern often overshadowed by childhood immunisation efforts.
Located within the Artemis Hospitals premises, the new centre will act as a comprehensive hub for adult vaccination education and services. It is equipped with a specialised team of counsellors and medical professionals dedicated to providing detailed information about the importance and benefits of adult vaccinations. Patients will receive personalised guidance on vaccination requirements, helping them make informed decisions about their health.
Dr Devlina Chakravarty, Managing Director of Artemis Hospitals, highlighted the initiative's importance stating, "Vaccinations are essential throughout an individual's life, particularly for vulnerable groups such as those with chronic conditions and the elderly. Our Vaccination Centre represents a major commitment to enhancing patient care and preventive health. It will serve as a centre of innovation and education, significantly contributing to reducing the disease burden in the adult population."
Dr Santosh Taur, Director of Medical Affairs at Pfizer Vaccines, emphasised Pfizer's role in public health stating, “Our partnership with Artemis Hospitals underscores our dedication to preventive health. By expanding access to adult vaccinations, we aim to offer robust protection against prevalent diseases, particularly respiratory infections.”
The centre addresses several challenges facing adult vaccination in India, including limited awareness and accessibility issues. It will conduct public education and outreach to combat myths and misconceptions about vaccines. By training healthcare providers and offering comprehensive resources, the centre aims to increase vaccination rates and improve patient care, ultimately enhancing workforce productivity and reducing healthcare costs.
Dr Arun Chowdary Kotaru, Consultant in Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at Artemis Hospitals, noted the broader impact of vaccination: “Vaccination is not just about individual protection; it serves as a community shield. It’s a small step with a significant impact on public health. Every vaccinated person contributes to a healthier world.”
