Bayer’s Consumer Health Division has introduced Bepanthen, the world’s leading skincare brand, to the Indian market, addressing the widespread concern about dry skin among the population. Along with the launch, Bayer shared insights from a survey conducted by Ipsos among Indian dermatologists, revealing that nearly 1 in 2 individuals in India suffer from dry skin, a condition that is often dismissed as “just dry skin.”
In a press statement on Friday, the company informed that the 2024 Bepanthen Dry Skin Survey gathered data from seven cities, offering a detailed perspective on the prevalence of dry skin issues in the country. According to the survey, 82 per cent of dermatologists report that patients tend to overlook recurring dry skin without realising it could indicate an underlying condition, such as eczema or dermatitis. The survey also highlighted that 88 per cent of dermatologists attribute skin flare-ups to environmental factors, such as cold and dry weather, underlining the need for specialised skincare solutions.
Sandeep Verma, Country Head for India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka at Bayer’s Consumer Health Division, commented, “The findings of the Bepanthen Survey reveal that many people fail to differentiate between common dry skin and more severe conditions, even though they often search the internet for answers. At Bayer, we aim to close this knowledge gap and provide premium, science-backed skincare solutions to help people manage their skin health more effectively. Bepanthen’s launch in India is a step forward in offering relief for those suffering from dry, irritated, and sensitive skin.”
Dermatologists surveyed reported that 47 per cent of the general population in India suffers from dry skin, and nearly 1 in 3 patients visiting dermatologists for dry skin issues experience recurrent dryness. Despite the high prevalence of dry skin, 40 per cent of patients delay visiting a dermatologist for over a month after symptoms first appear.
The survey also revealed that 93 per cent of dermatologists believe there is a significant knowledge gap among adults about how to properly manage dry skin conditions. Many patients resort to home remedies or over-the-counter moisturisers before consulting a dermatologist. However, Bayer’s Bepanthen range offers a more targeted approach, with products enriched with Pro-Vitamin B5 and Prebiotics, designed to relieve dry, irritated, and sensitive skin from the very first application.
Dr. Ratnapal Shah, Senior Dermatologist, MBBS DVD, added, “Many patients are unaware of the need for specialised treatment when it comes to conditions like eczema and dermatitis. Bepanthen's medicated moisturisers offer an effective solution to manage and soothe irritated skin, helping to prevent flare-ups and promote long-term skin health.”
With 75 years of global expertise and 11 clinical studies backing its efficacy, Bepanthen is renowned for its ability to manage sensitive skin conditions without the use of steroids. Globally recognised for its innovation, Bepanthen’s medicated moisturisers are clinically proven to be as effective as 1 per cent hydrocortisone for treating eczema-prone skin. The brand’s Indian range includes moisturising creams, gentle body and face cleansers, and itch-relief creams, all designed to meet the unique needs of Indian skin.
In addition to addressing skin issues, Bepanthen aims to improve the quality of life for those who often overlook their skin health. As per the survey, 82 per cent of dermatologists reported that patients with dry or sensitive skin feel anxious about going out in public, fearing exposure to their skin conditions. Bepanthen’s steroid-free solutions are positioned to provide both immediate relief and long-term benefits for those suffering from skin issues.
As Bepanthen enters the Indian market, Bayer remains committed to helping individuals manage their skin health more effectively, offering holistic skincare solutions to meet the growing need for specialised care.
