Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection (CAPED) Trust, a prominent community outreach organisation focused on cancer prevention and early detection, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a transformative event.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the organisation informed that the milestone event, held on May 28, 2024, from 2 PM to 6 PM at Stellar Resorts in Rajokri, New Delhi, coincided with the annual Cervical Cancer Prevention Day (CCPD). This observance, initiated by CAPED on May 21, 2022, underscores the importance of preventing and eliminating cervical cancer. The celebration also aligned with the International Day of Action for Women's Health, highlighting the global significance of women's health initiatives.

The event featured a keynote address by Arun Bharat Ram, Chairman Emeritus at SRF Limited and Trustee at CAPED, who recounted the organisation’s founding vision. CAPED’s CEO,  Mridu Gupta, reflected on the past decade’s experiences and outlined future initiatives. Partner organisations also shared their collaborative efforts with CAPED in the fight against cervical cancer. A fireside chat, led by  Ravi Kumar, Head of Operations at CAPED, featured an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) discussing grassroots impacts. The event included personal stories of resilience from community members, a music session led by Karthik Sekaran creating an audience-driven theme song, and the premiere of the “CAPED film” which highlighted the organisation’s mission and vision.

Over the past ten years, CAPED has reached more than 60.6 million individuals through awareness programs and conducted cancer screenings for over 42,000 women across 573 villages. The organisation has also played a pivotal role in advocacy, influencing national policy changes to improve access to cervical cancer prevention. CAPED’s collaborations include esteemed entities like the National Institute of Cancer Prevention Research (NICPR), the National Association for Reproductive and Child Health of India (NARCHI), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Asia-Pacific Women’s Cancer Coalition (APAC WCC), and the Global HPV Consortium, among others.

The anniversary event was attended by representatives from partner organisations such as the American Cancer Society (ACS), AstraZeneca, Becton Dickinson (BD), Roche, DSS, OneStage, SRF Foundation, the Gates Foundation, Karkinos, and Niramai, along with CAPED’s trustees, employees, volunteers, and ambassadors.

"We – as a community organisation and a team - have shown remarkable resilience to overcome challenges and achieve milestones in our fight against cervical cancer. As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, our commitment to a future free of cervical cancer remains unwavering. Together, we will continue to go strong and work towards a #CervicalCancerMuktBharat," stated  Mridu Gupta, CEO of CAPED.
