The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) in Kolkata has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first hospital in Eastern India to receive Stroke Accreditation from India's Quality Accreditation Institute (QAI).
The research institute in a press statement on Monday said that this accreditation is a testament to CMRI’s commitment to maintaining one of the highest standards in stroke care, with a focus on patient-centered treatments and comprehensive recovery solutions.
The certification underscores CMRI’s leadership in stroke care through a multidisciplinary approach, which includes cutting-edge treatments and a seamless recovery process from initial diagnosis to post-treatment rehabilitation. CMRI’s Unit Head, Sombrata Roy, commented on the achievement, stating, “This recognition reflects our commitment to QAI standards, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through our dedicated stroke committee. We have established a streamlined protocol to monitor crucial metrics, including assessment time, door-to-CT/MRI time, door-to-needle time, and door-to-Cath lab time, which are essential for effective and timely stroke treatment. Additionally, monthly stroke mock drills are conducted to improve team coordination and efficiency, and a designated stroke helpline has been introduced to further support patient care.”
In addition to its advancements in stroke treatment, CMRI’s neuro department offers specialised therapies, including deep brain stimulation, botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders, and comprehensive care for headaches and neuroimmune disorders. These are administered alongside advanced treatments for conditions like multiple sclerosis.
The Advanced Stroke Center at CMRI is equipped with specialised Neuro and Stroke ICUs, managed by highly trained critical care physicians available 24/7. With continuous system enhancements and QAI compliance, CMRI is positioning itself as a premier provider of neurological care. "At CMRI, we are committed to driving innovation, teamwork, and timely treatments to enhance patient outcomes," added Sombrata Roy. "This accreditation solidifies our role as a regional leader in neurology and stroke care."
