Fortis Gurugram Launches Vertigo Lab For Advanced Diagnosis & Care

The Vertigo Lab is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including Video Nystagmography, Dynamic Visual Acuity, and Subjective Visual Vertical, which enable precise assessments of the vestibular system

Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, has inaugurated a  Vertigo Laboratory aimed at revolutionising the diagnosis and treatment of vertigo and related vestibular disorders in India. Under the leadership of Dr. Praveen Gupta, Principal Director and Head of Neurology, the new facility is poised to transform the management of one of the most underdiagnosed conditions globally.

The Vertigo Lab is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including Video Nystagmography, Dynamic Visual Acuity, and Subjective Visual Vertical, which enable precise assessments of the vestibular system. These tools are critical for diagnosing disorders that impact balance, spatial orientation, and inner-ear functions. By evaluating eye movements and vertical perception, the lab ensures accurate detection of conditions that often elude traditional imaging techniques like MRI or CT scans.

Addressing Misdiagnosis in Vertigo Care
Vertigo and dizziness affect approximately 35 per cent of adults during their lifetime and are frequently misdiagnosed as low blood pressure or other unrelated conditions. This leads to delays in treatment and unnecessary suffering for patients. The new lab aims to address these challenges by providing tailored diagnostic and treatment plans, helping patients regain stability and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Praveen Gupta emphasised the lab’s potential to bridge gaps in vertigo care. “We are proud to announce the inauguration of one of the most advanced Vertigo Labs in India. Vertigo is often challenging to diagnose through conventional imaging, leaving both patients and healthcare providers in confusion. With our cutting-edge technology, we aim to provide accurate assessments and effective treatments, offering much-needed relief to those affected by undiagnosed or mismanaged conditions,” he said.

Yash Rawat, Facility Director at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare services. “This advanced vestibular lab is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of vestibular disorders. Our team of specialists is equipped to address both inner-ear and neurological conditions affecting balance, ultimately improving the quality of life for our patients,” he said.
