The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA), a global organisation committed to advancing women in the business of healthcare, marked a significant milestone with its first-ever India Leadership Summit held in Mumbai.
In a press statement on Monday, the organisation informed that this landmark event brought together industry leaders and executives from renowned healthcare companies such as Novartis, Lilly, GSK, Sanofi, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and many more, with a common goal of promoting gender equity in healthcare leadership in India.
With India playing an increasingly pivotal role in the global healthcare landscape, the HBA’s strategic focus on the country reflects its growing importance in the international arena. Over the past three years, HBA India has expanded from just 15 members to over 450, underscoring the dedication of its volunteers and partners to advance women’s roles in leadership.
During the summit, industry leaders emphasised that gender equity goes beyond representation; it also involves addressing pay parity and prioritising women’s health and wellness. Advocating for gender balance, HBA called for male support in championing this cause, particularly in male-dominated sectors like Indian healthcare.
Mary Stutts, CEO of HBA, highlighted the significance of the event: "For nearly 50 years, the HBA has been at the forefront of advancing women in healthcare leadership. Hosting the HBA India Leadership Summit is a vital step in ensuring women here are equipped with the skills, training, and support needed to drive their careers forward. India’s role on the global stage is crucial, and having an impact here will resonate around the world."
Dr. Deepa Desai, Chair of HBA India, shared her enthusiasm: “The healthcare sector in India is evolving rapidly, and we are proud to create a platform that empowers women to lead. Our goal is not just to equip women with knowledge and connections but also to encourage more men to join as allies to bring about real transformation.”
