In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur has joined forces with Race Across India, an annual cycling event aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer. This year’s race, which began in Srinagar and will end in Kanyakumari, gathers cyclists from all over the country for a cause that spans across multiple cities.
Four teams from the Tiger City Cycling Club Nagpur, including renowned cyclists from across India, are leading the charge in this 20-day rally. On the 27th of October, the teams will arrive in Nagpur for a Mega Cyclothon organised by HCG Cancer Centre, which will see over 400 participants take part in a breast cancer awareness event. The event is expected to attract fitness enthusiasts, philanthropists, and local residents, making it a large-scale community effort.
The rally was flagged off on the morning of the 4th of October by chief guest Dr. Amit Samarth, an internationally recognised cyclist, alongside Dr. Ajay Mehta, Dr. Suchitra Mehta, Dr. Shizan Pervez, and Venkateshwarlu Marapaka. They were joined by participants, consultants, and staff of HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ajay Mehta, Director and Surgical Oncologist at HCG Cancer Centre, said, “HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur has always been committed to encouraging fitness and promoting healthy living. Cycling is not only great for health but is also a fun and environment-friendly way to raise awareness about breast cancer. We’re proud to support this initiative, which reflects the community's dedication to health and fitness."
Chief Operating Officer of HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur, Venkateshwarlu Marapaka, highlighted the importance of the event, stating, “Our participation in this nationwide race aims to spread awareness about breast cancer. We’ve organised various events in the past and will continue to do so in the future. It’s inspiring to see participants like Vishwas Chatti, a 64-year-old cyclist, and Dilip Warkad, who will be riding solo for 3,700 km. Their dedication underscores the importance of this cause.”
