It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Sandip Chatterjee, one of India’s most esteemed neurosurgeons, and a remarkable human being

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Sandip Chatterjee, one of India’s most esteemed neurosurgeons, and a remarkable human being. Dr Chatterjee, associated with Park Nursing, was known not only for his exceptional medical expertise but also for his wit, passion for debate, and dedication to advocating for important causes.

A fellow Xaverian, Dr Chatterjee had an illustrious academic and professional career, having achieved numerous prestigious qualifications, including:

  • M.B.B.S. from Calcutta University (1984), with Honours in Surgery and Ophthalmology
  • F.R.C.S Edinburgh (1989)
  • Dip. National Board in Surgery (India) (1989)
  • F.R.C.S. (Neurosurgery), Joint Intercollegiate Board (1994)
  • Dip. National Board in Neurosurgery (1994)
  • M.N.A.M.S (Neurosurgery), National Academy of Medical Sciences (1996)

Throughout his career, Dr Chatterjee remained a staunch advocate for causes that sought to improve healthcare, some of which were personally taken to Parliament. His unparalleled contributions to neurosurgery were matched only by his compassion, kindness, and intellectual brilliance.

Dr Chatterjee’s passing is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, and the medical community at large. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace
