'India Fights TB' Campaign Launched In Maharashtra

Targeting Pune Rural and Dharashiv districts, the campaign aims to raise awareness about TB and promote its prevention through a variety of culturally tailored initiatives

In an effort to address the growing threat of tuberculosis (TB), HEAL Foundation, in partnership with Mylan Pharmaceuticals Private (a Viatris company), has launched the 'India Fights TB' campaign across Maharashtra. Targeting Pune Rural and Dharashiv districts, the campaign aims to raise awareness about TB and promote its prevention through a variety of culturally tailored initiatives.

The multi-channel approach includes traditional street theatre, known as Nukkad Nataks, to highlight TB-related issues in a format easily understood by local communities. Radio broadcasts are also being deployed to spread informative content to a broader audience, while interviews with subject matter experts will spotlight the importance of TB prevention and treatment. These interviews will feature prominent individuals discussing methods to fight the disease, further amplifying the campaign’s message.

Dr. Swadeep Srivastava, Founder of HEAL Foundation, emphasised the importance of community engagement in the fight against TB. "Our mission is to ensure that every individual, regardless of their geographical location, has access to critical information about tuberculosis. Through activities like Nukkad Nataks, impactful radio programs, and our knowledge portal www.indiafightstb.com, we aim to break down barriers to knowledge and foster a more informed and proactive community," said Dr. Srivastava.

Backing the initiative is Viatris, whose support is essential to the campaign's success. Dr. Dhara Shah, Head of Medical Affairs at Viatris India, expressed the company's commitment, stating, “Viatris is proud to support the 'India Fights TB' initiative as part of our dedication to improving global health. Our collaboration with the HEAL Foundation reflects our shared vision of eradicating TB through education, prevention, and effective treatment. By combining our resources and expertise, we can make a significant impact in the fight against tuberculosis.”
