Lubrizol, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has joined hands with Polyhose, a leading fluid conveyance systems manufacturer, to establish a cutting-edge medical tubing manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. Supported by the Government of Tamil Nadu, this initiative is poised to localise life-saving medical tubing production, marking a significant milestone for India’s healthcare sector.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa and Industries Secretary V Arun Roy, aims to enhance Lubrizol's local medical tubing production capacity five-fold. The state-of-the-art facility will cater to critical neurovascular and cardiovascular applications, such as balloon catheters and minimally invasive procedure catheters, while also enabling global exports.
Bhavana Bindra, Managing Director of Lubrizol India, Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the agreement’s importance, stating, “This initiative introduces precision manufacturing technology to India, enabling the country to serve critical care markets locally and globally. We are proud to offer high-quality solutions while reducing reliance on imports for medical device needs.”
The new facility will leverage Lubrizol’s advanced medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and other polymers known for their biocompatibility, performance, and patient comfort. The facility, designed to meet ISO 13485 standards, ensures safe and high-quality production.
Rebecca Liebert, President and CEO of Lubrizol, remarked, “India remains central to our innovation and growth strategy. This partnership underscores our commitment to a local-for-local and local-for-global approach, positioning us to deliver world-class medical tubing while supporting the growth of India’s medical industry.”
Polyhose’s Managing Director, Shabbir Y J, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This MoU marks a new chapter in our partnership with Lubrizol. Tamil Nadu continues to be an ideal location for fostering innovation and industrial expansion, and we are proud to advance industry standards together.”
Groundbreaking for the new facility is slated for 2025, with operations expected to commence in 2026. The project aligns with Lubrizol’s broader commitment to "Make-in-India," complementing its USD 350 million investments in Indian manufacturing, including CPVC resin plants in Gujarat and a Global Capability Center in Pune.
