Max Healthcare Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi has been recognised as one of the highest individual taxpayers in India for the fiscal year 2022-23. This honor, bestowed by the Income Tax Department, Mumbai, highlights Soi’s dedication to nation-building and his active participation in the growth and inclusive development of India.
Abhay Soi paid approximately Rs 400 crore in income tax for the assessment year 2023-24, earning him the title of “Top Individual Tax Payer” in the category of individuals with gross tax payable exceeding Rs 10 lakhs.

Paying taxes is not only a legal obligation but also a testament to my commitment to contributing to the growth and development of our country. This honour reflects the importance of every citizen's role in nation-building,” said Abhay Soi, Chairman and Managing Director of Max Healthcare.
A first-generation entrepreneur, Soi is widely credited with the transformation and rapid expansion of Max Healthcare. The hospital network, one of the largest publicly listed hospital chains in India with a market cap of over USD 10 billion, reserves 7.5 per cent its beds for free service to patients from economically weaker sections of society. Max Healthcare comprises 20 hospitals with a total capacity of over 4,000 beds and employs more than 27,900 personnel.
The recognition took place during the 165th Income Tax Day celebrations organised by the Income Tax Department, Mumbai, at Kautilya Bhavan, BKC, Mumbai. Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais presided over the event, commemorating the introduction of income tax in India on July 24, 1860.
To celebrate the contributions of taxpayers, the Income Tax Department felicitated top taxpayers in several predefined categories, as directed by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
