Olympus Corporation, a leader in medical technology in a press statement on Wednesday, announced a strategic initiative to establish a Research and Development (R&D) Offshore Development Center (ODC) in Hyderabad.
This move follows a strategic agreement with HCL Tech, aimed at enhancing Olympus' innovation activities worldwide.
The announcement was made during a meeting between D. Sridhar Babu, Minister of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C) and Industries & Commerce (I&C) of the Government of Telangana, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Minister for Roads and Buildings and Cinematography, and Syed Naveed, Global Senior Vice President, R&D, Olympus Corporation. The virtual participation of Andre Roggan, Chief Innovation Officer at Olympus Corporation, and other senior state officials highlighted the significance of this investment.
Minister Sridhar Babu, leading a delegation in the USA to attract investments to Telangana, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Olympus Corporation's decision to invest in Hyderabad marks a significant milestone for our city's medical devices ecosystem. With Hyderabad's robust infrastructure and innovative healthcare community, this investment is poised to transform the medical devices sector in India."
This R&D ODC in Hyderabad underscores Olympus' commitment to leveraging global R&D talents and resources to advance medical technology. Hyderabad's rich talent pool and established R&D infrastructure make it an ideal location for Olympus' expansion. The company is also planning to establish an in-house R&D centre in India, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to the country’s growing MedTech capabilities.
Olympus will also collaborate with AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, on joint research projects, aiming to leverage clinical expertise to develop innovative medical solutions for global patient needs. This partnership reinforces Olympus' dedication to advancing medical technology and expanding its global footprint.
