OMRON Healthcare India Partners With AliveCor

The collaboration introduces devices, including the first home BPM+ECG Monitoring FDA-cleared device, which integrates blood pressure monitoring with AliveCor's ECG capabilities in a single unit

OMRON Healthcare India, the Indian division of the Japanese global leader in medical equipment for home health monitoring, has announced  partnership with AliveCor India, the Indian subsidiary of the renowned leader in FDA-cleared, CE-marked, and CDSCO-approved personal electrocardiogram (ECG) technology. In a press statement on Tuesday, the company said that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in OMRON’s "Going for Zero" vision, aimed at enhancing cardiovascular health awareness and preventing heart disease incidents.

OMRON Healthcare India, known for its expertise in blood pressure monitoring, now offers advanced AI-based handheld ECG technology through this partnership. The collaboration introduces devices, including the first home BPM+ECG Monitoring FDA-cleared device, which integrates blood pressure monitoring with AliveCor's ECG capabilities in a single unit. This innovation is designed for the early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the press statement read. Additionally, AliveCor’s world-renowned pocket-sized personal ECG devices are now available, providing instant detection of various arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (Afib), bradycardia, and tachycardia, the statement from the company added.

For nearly 50 years, OMRON Healthcare has been at the forefront of hypertension management. However, recognising the critical role of Afib in stroke and cardiovascular disease risk, the company has expanded its focus. Hypertension is a leading risk factor for Afib, which can significantly increase the risk of stroke. Monitoring both ECG and blood pressure at home is essential for early management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health conditions, according to Tetsuya Yamada, Managing Director of OMRON Healthcare India.

India faces a significant health challenge with over 220 million people suffering from high blood pressure, yet only 15 per cent receive treatment, and a mere 5 per cent use a digital BP monitor, as per a WHO study. The gap for ECG monitoring is expected to be even greater.

Yamada elaborated on the partnership, stating, “Guided by our vision – "Going for Zero," we are collaborating with organizations like AliveCor to enhance the accuracy, quality, and accessibility of home and remote patient monitoring. This empowers individuals to manage their conditions effectively and addresses the limited number of cardiologists in the country. Innovative devices will reduce the waiting period for ECG measurements and provide real-time updates to doctors, facilitating better decision-making for cardiovascular health management.”

Anuj Seth, Managing Director of AliveCor India, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, saying, “At AliveCor, we are committed to expanding access to remote patient care through cutting-edge mobile technology. Partnering with OMRON Healthcare India allows us to extend the reach of our products, ultimately saving more lives.”
