Protinex Distributes 300 Packs To ASHA Workers To Boost Protein Consumption In India

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) recommends a dietary allowance of 0.83g of protein per kg of body weight per day

In a significant move to promote protein consumption and improve health and nutrition, Protinex, the flagship brand of Danone India, has launched an initiative to distribute Protinex packs to ASHA workers.

In a press statement on Friday, the company said that for every 1,000 pledges received, the brand donates a pack of Protinex, in collaboration with the Doctors For You Foundation, aiming to empower ASHA workers as effective advocates for patient health.

Proteins are vital for daily bodily functions, providing energy, combating fatigue, and enhancing muscle strength. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) recommends a dietary allowance of 0.83g of protein per kg of body weight per day. Despite this, studies show that 70 per cent of Indian consumers do not meet their protein requirements, potentially harming their overall well-being.

By distributing Protinex to ASHA workers, Danone India supports their health and nutrition, enabling them to advocate for increased protein consumption within their communities. ASHA workers, being trusted community members, have a unique ability to engage with individuals who may have limited access to healthcare services.

Sriram Padmanabhan, Marketing Director of Danone India, stated, “People often overlook the importance of muscle health and protein intake. As we age, our bodies undergo changes that necessitate appropriate nutritional actions. At Danone India, we believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food and essential healthcare. By providing Protinex to ASHA workers, we aim to enhance their nutritional intake and contribute to their overall well-being.”

This initiative is part of the Protinex Protein Abhiyaan, a nationwide campaign addressing the issue of inadequate protein intake in India, the press statement added.
