Redcliffe Labs Study Highlights Rising Arthritis Risk Across All Age Groups

The study, conducted over three years with 2 million tests, shows that 1 in 5 Indians are at risk of developing arthritis, underscoring the need for early diagnosis and preventive healthcare

A comprehensive study conducted by Redcliffe Labs, a leading pan-India diagnostics provider, has revealed that arthritis is no longer an ailment confined to older adults. The study, conducted over three years with 2 million tests, shows that 1 in 5 Indians are at risk of developing arthritis, underscoring the need for early diagnosis and preventive healthcare.

The study highlights that men are more prone to developing arthritis at a younger age, with abnormal test results observed in 18 per cent of men aged 26 to 40. Women, however, face a higher risk as they age, with the likelihood of arthritis increasing from 10 per cent in women above 25 years to 33 per cent in those over 70. These findings debunk the myth that arthritis is a predominantly female or age-restricted condition, emphasising the condition’s gender-neutral and age-spanning impact.

The findings are particularly relevant during winter months when arthritis symptoms such as joint stiffness and inflammation tend to worsen. Preventive measures, including regular physical activity and joint care, are crucial to mitigating the disease’s impact.

Dr. Geetanjali Gupta, Director of Technical Operations and Quality Assurance at Redcliffe Labs, explained, “With 1 in 5 people at risk of arthritis, especially in younger demographics, early diagnosis is critical. Identifying the condition in its early stages allows for lifestyle modifications and treatments that can significantly slow progression and improve quality of life. Raising awareness is a key step in addressing this growing health concern.”

India has seen a surge in preventive health checkups, with the number of individuals opting for regular screenings tripling between 2022 and 2024. Redcliffe Labs’ study aligns with this trend, promoting proactive health management as the cornerstone of combating chronic conditions like arthritis.

Aditya Kandoi, CEO and Founder of Redcliffe Labs commented, “While the increased awareness around preventive health checkups is encouraging, we still have a long way to go in addressing chronic autoimmune conditions like arthritis. At Redcliffe Labs, we are dedicated to making diagnostics accessible and fostering a shift towards preventive healthcare. Prevention is the future of healthcare, and we aim to empower individuals to take control of their health before it’s too late.”

With arthritis cases on the rise across all age groups, the study underscores the importance of early diagnosis and lifestyle adjustments in preserving mobility and overall health. .
