Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, successfully treated a 55-year-old male suffering from persistent abdominal pain, later diagnosed as an atypical pancreatic pseudocyst. Initially misdiagnosed as gastritis, the patient underwent advanced diagnostic imaging, revealing a rare peri-splenic pseudocyst, leading to a successful surgical intervention.
The patient, who had been experiencing upper abdominal pain and significant weight loss for three months, had not responded to conservative treatment. Dr. Vinay Thati, General Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, led the case and identified the unusual location of the pseudocyst. A tailored surgical procedure, converting from laparoscopic to open surgery, involved creating an internal drainage system to manage the pancreatic juices, resulting in complete symptom relief.
Dr. Thati emphasised the importance of accurate diagnosis in such complex cases: “Identifying the atypical pseudocyst was key to resolving the patient’s condition and achieving a successful outcome.”
The patient’s post-surgical recovery was marked by a full resolution of symptoms, improved appetite, and weight gain within a month.
