19th Delhi Critical Care Symposium Focuses On Timed Decision-Making & Clinical Judgement

Esteemed healthcare professionals gathered to share insights on critical issues, including ICU care transformation through precision antibiotics, maximising Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) effectiveness, antibiotic de-escalation strategies, and navigating transplant impacts on acute liver failure

The 19th Delhi Critical Care Symposium (DCCS), hosted by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), Delhi-Noida, recently convened at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre in Delhi. With a focused theme of "Timed Decision Making & Clinical Judgement," the event aimed to foster advancements in intensive care through timely interventions and precise clinical decision-making.

The symposium began with workshops on November 8, followed by an extensive two-day scientific program on November 9 and 10, featuring a Med-Extravaganza. Esteemed healthcare professionals gathered to share insights on critical issues, including ICU care transformation through precision antibiotics, maximising Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) effectiveness, antibiotic de-escalation strategies, and navigating transplant impacts on acute liver failure.

Highlights of the Symposium

Dr. Neeraj Tyagi opened the event with a session on "Transforming ICU Care: Precision Antibiotics Through Molecular Diagnostics," setting the tone for discussions centred on advanced ICU techniques. Dr. Pradeep Bhattacharya, presenting on "GREEN ICU: Environmental Sustainability in Intensive Care," emphasized the importance of eco-friendly practices in critical care. The event also included a high-profile DCCS Oration on "Artificial Intelligence in Critical Care," led by Dr. Pradeep Bhattacharya, Dr. Y.P. Singh, and Dr. Mrinal Sircar, highlighting the transformative potential of AI in intensive care settings.

Panel Discussions and Keynote Sessions

Among the most engaging sessions were panel discussions and debates that provided diverse perspectives on critical care challenges. Noteworthy sessions included "Controversial Therapies: Navigating the Grey Areas of Modern Critical Care" and a live debate on the costs and benefits of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in India. These discussions addressed both clinical and ethical considerations, reflecting the complex decisions critical care practitioners face daily.

The program also explored challenges like nutrition in ICU settings, ICU technology advancements, and emerging therapies in sepsis management, with contributions from notable speakers such as Dr. Sheila Nainan Myatra, Dr. Sanjeev Mittal, and Dr. Dipanjan Halder.

Commitment to Education and Professional Growth

Under the leadership of Dr. Prashant Saxena (Organising Chairman) and Dr. Akhil Taneja (Organising Secretary), the DCCS showcased its commitment to continuous learning by offering 10.5 credit hours for attendees. The event provided an opportunity for healthcare professionals to gain insights from leading experts and participate in interactive sessions aimed at enhancing clinical acumen and patient care outcomes.
