Aster DM Healthcare has unveiled the top 10 finalists for the third edition of the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, a prestigious platform recognising the exceptional contributions of nurses around the world. The award, which is among the top global honours for nurses with the highest prize money, attracted over 78,000 applications from 202 countries. One nurse will take home the grand title and a prize of Rs 2 crores.
The company in a press statement on Friday informed that the finalists were selected after a rigorous review process independently managed by Ernst & Young LLP (EY), alongside an Expert Jury and a Grand Jury. The top 10 finalists for the 2024 edition include:

Johnsy Inni (Immanuel Lutheran Rural Hospital, Papua New Guinea)
Laarni Conlu Florencio (New York Presbyterian, USA)
Lilian Nuwabaine (Aga Khan University School of Nursing Midwifery & Manyangwa Best Medical Services Center Limited, Uganda)
Nelson Bautista (Tawam Hospital, UAE)
Nilima Pradeepkumar Rane (President of Nursing Association – Goa state branch, India)
Maria Victoria Juan (Consultant at Philippine Army Health Services, Philippines)
Martin Schiavenato (Gonzaga University, USA)
Hoi Shu Yin (Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore)
Sylvia May Hampton (Wound Care Consultants Ltd, England)
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, said, "Each of these nurses has demonstrated excellence, going beyond the call of duty to ensure the wellbeing of patients and their communities. The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award was established to honour, celebrate, and reward these remarkable contributions, establishing nurses as role models in healthcare."

In addition to the grand prize of Rs 2 crores, the other nine finalists will also receive recognition. The final selection round will involve interviews with the Grand Jury, which includes:

Prof. Sheila Tlou, Co-Chairperson of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition and former Minister of Health & MP of Botswana
Prof. James Buchan, Adjunct Professor at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing
Dr. Peter Carter, OBE awardee and former CEO of the Royal College of Nursing
Dr. Niti Pall, Senior Digital Advisor for AXA (EC) and Managing Director of Health4all advisory
The winner will be announced in a grand gala event in Bengaluru, India, by December 2024. In 2023, Nurse Margaret Shepherd from the UK won the grand title, taking home Rs 2 crores.
