The Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) hosted its second annual Onco Critical Care Conference, uniting top experts, intensivists, nurses, and healthcare professionals from New Delhi and surrounding areas.
In a press statement on Monday, RGCIRC informed that the event focused on addressing critical gaps in oncology care, emphasising the necessity of specialised care units for severe cancer-related conditions and the need for advanced expertise among onco-critical care professionals.
The conference featured a series of expert-led sessions and panel discussions aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals in the field of critical care. D. S. Negi, CEO of RGCIRC, underscored the conference’s role in pushing the boundaries of onco-critical care. "Our commitment is to advance onco critical care by not only improving our clinical practices but also by fostering a collaborative environment for ongoing education and research. We are dedicated to ensuring that cancer patients receive the intensive care they need, when they need it, to improve their chances of recovery and quality of life," said Negi.
Dr. Parveen Kaur, Consultant & Head MICU at RGCIRC and the conference’s Organising Chairperson highlighted the significance of the event in driving advancements in onco-critical care. "Many cancer patients find themselves in the ICU due to complications from their disease or its treatment. The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness that cancer diagnosis is not a dead end. Intensive care is not just a reactive measure but an integral part of cancer care. Patients with cancer, irrespective of their stage, deserve the best possible intensive care," Kaur emphasised.
Key topics covered at the conference included "AI Maturity Roadmap for Effective and Sustainable Application in Healthcare," "CAR T Cell Therapy: Pearls and Pitfalls," and "Approach to Infections in Stem Cell Transplant Recipients." Discussions also addressed the complexities of providing organ support to cancer patients and optimising care based on individual needs and circumstances.
