To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur organised the ‘Wheels of Hopes’ cyclathon, aiming to raise awareness on breast cancer. Flagged off by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravindra Singal at Telangkhedi, the event concluded at HCG Cancer Centre with more than 400 cyclists participating, reinforcing the importance of fitness and awareness in preventing breast cancer. The cyclathon was held in collaboration with the Tiger City Cycling Association and Laughter Riders.
The event began at 6:30 am, running until 8 am and gathering notable participants including Dr. Amit Samarth, international cyclist, along with HCG Cancer Centre officials Dr. Ajay Mehta, Director & Surgical Oncologist, and Venkateshwarlu Marapaka, Chief Operating Officer. The event featured an inspiring mix of local doctors and cycling enthusiasts from across Nagpur, all united to promote breast cancer awareness through fitness.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HCG Cancer Centre Nagpur is also partnering with Race Across India, a national cycling event from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. The event spans multiple cities, covering 3,700 kilometres in six days. Among the participating teams from Nagpur is Tiger City Cycling Club, with members like Vishwas Chatti, a 64-year-old cyclist, and Dr. Anagha Amblr, dedicated to spreading awareness about breast cancer across the nation.
Chief Guest Dr. Ravindra Singal, a cycling enthusiast himself, praised HCG Cancer Centre for the initiative. “This cyclathon not only promotes fitness but also emphasises the importance of awareness and early detection in fighting breast cancer. Adopting healthy habits is essential in preventing such diseases, and events like these encourage our community to take proactive steps toward better health,” he said.
Dr. Ajay Mehta, Director of HCG Cancer Centre, highlighted the centre’s commitment to health and fitness. “Breast cancer has become a leading cause of mortality among Indian women. We believe cycling is an excellent way to promote fitness while spreading an important message. Today’s enthusiastic participation reflects the community’s commitment to health and preventive care.”
Adding to the sentiments, Mr. Venkateshwarlu Marapaka, COO of HCG Cancer Centre, stated, “It is heartening to witness such widespread participation for this cause. HCG Cancer Centre has consistently organised fitness and health events, and we plan to continue these efforts. Nagpur’s response today shows the power of community involvement in spreading critical health awareness.”
