SS Innovations, the pioneer of India’s first indigenous surgical robotic system, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully performing Indonesia's first robotic cardiac surgery.
In a press statement on Monday, the company informed that, conducted at Harapan Kita National Cardiac Hospital in Jakarta, this historic achievement underscores the transformative potential of SSI Mantra, a surgical robotic system designed to make advanced robotic surgeries cost-effective and globally accessible.
Led by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations, the procedure involved a Beating Heart Totally Endoscopic Coronary Artery Bypass (TECAB), along with other critical surgeries like bilateral IMA Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) repair. This marked a significant advancement in Indonesia’s healthcare sector, setting a new benchmark for precision and innovation in cardiac care.
Dr. Srivastava, globally renowned for his expertise in robotic cardiac surgery, personally performed the TECAB procedure alongside the Harapan Kita team, led by Dr. Dudy Hanafy. The event highlighted the exceptional capabilities of SSI Mantra, reinforcing India's position as a hub for healthcare technological innovation.
“This milestone reflects our vision of transforming surgical practices and advancing access to robotic surgery worldwide,” said Dr. Srivastava. “By partnering with Harapan Kita, we are not only bringing cutting-edge solutions to cardiac surgery but also addressing the critical need for safe, timely, and affordable care. SSI Mantra exemplifies Indian ingenuity and technological excellence, offering surgeons unparalleled precision and patients less invasive options for an improved quality of life.”
The collaboration between SS Innovations and Harapan Kita marks the beginning of a robotic cardiac surgery program in Indonesia, with plans to perform 7-8 additional robotic-assisted procedures in the coming days. These surgeries, including advanced techniques like LIMA, BIMA, and TECAB, aim to raise the standard of cardiac care in the region.
Dr. Iwan Dakota, Director and Intervention Cardiologist at Harapan Kita, noted, “SSI Mantra is the only system supporting the full spectrum of robotic cardiac surgeries, including TECAB. After thoroughly reviewing available robotic systems, we found Mantra’s capabilities unmatched. The potential for implementing robotic surgery in Indonesia is immense, and this achievement lays the groundwork for its widespread adoption.”
