A recent survey conducted by OC Academy reveals a pressing need for specialized upskilling opportunities among doctors in India, with an overwhelming 93.58 per cent of medical professionals advocating for training programs beyond traditional Continuing Medical Education (CME). The study surveyed 400 doctors across various specialties and experience levels, highlighting a significant shift in the approach to medical education in response to rapid advancements in healthcare.
The survey showcased a diverse range of participants, with 38.89 per cent of respondents having over 20 years of experience, while 24.77 per cent had less than 5 years. As the medical field evolves, the necessity for targeted training has become increasingly apparent. Among the findings, 55.09 per cent of doctors actively seek resources online, while 34.26 per cent attend conferences or workshops, indicating a shift towards self-driven learning.
Notably, 61.35 per cent of doctors prefer a hybrid mode of learning, combining both online and offline elements, reflecting a desire for flexibility in educational formats. When considering specialized programs, 23.84 per cent of respondents prioritize practical hands-on experience, underscoring the importance of experiential learning.
Despite the high demand for upskilling, the survey identified several challenges, with 31.02 per cent of doctors citing lack of time and 33.56 per cent pointing to a shortage of suitable courses as significant hurdles. Additionally, only 27.31 per cent of respondents are currently enrolled in upskilling programs, highlighting a gap between the desire for continued education and actual participation.
Balu Ramachandran, Co-founder and CEO of OC Academy, remarked, “Our survey reveals a critical inflection point in medical education in India. The overwhelming demand signals not just a gap, but an opportunity to revolutionize medical education.” He emphasized the commitment to bridging this gap through innovative and flexible upskilling programs tailored to the needs of India's medical community.
