According to media reports, Tata Capital Healthcare Fund (TCHF) II has partnered with Mumbai-based Apex Kidney Care (AKC), a healthcare chain providing dialysis services across India. TCHF has invested up to USD 10 million in the healthcare service provider.
The company expects its capital expenditure over the medium term to be around Rs 150 crore, said Indranil Choudhury, group CEO, Apex Kidney Care.
According to the Tata Healthcare Fund assessment India has an estimated 2 million chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage-5 patients (kidney function below 15 per cent). Currently, around 21 million dialysis sessions are conducted on an annual basis in India, and this is estimated to be an abysmal 11 per cent of the overall annual need of the country,
As per reports, AKC currently operates 6 standalone centres and plans to expand its services to 60 centres across India by using the funds to scale up private sector businesses covering standalone partners, shop-in-shop centres and home dialysis services.
The report stated that AKC is currently managing 84 centres under the PPP model in collaboration with government and municipal bodies.
TCHF has raised nearly USD 200 million across two funds - TCHF I (2012) and TCHF II (2022) and has invested in 16 companies and has successfully exited 6 companies so far, reports in the media suggested.
