7th Annual MGB/OAGB Consensus Conference Wraps Up Successfully In Goa

The conference showcased groundbreaking advancements in bariatric surgery, including its inaugural Cadaver Surgery Workshops

In Goa, India, the 7th Annual Consensus Conference on MGB/OAGB (Mini Gastric Bypass/One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass) has concluded with resounding success. The conference, held under the chairmanship of Dr. Arun Prasad, Consultant Surgeon at Apollo Indraprastha Hospital, New Delhi, drew 250 surgeons from 25 countries, marking a significant milestone in the field of bariatric surgery.

Dr Prasad emphasised the conference's goal of establishing consensus on surgical techniques to ensure global adherence to standardised procedures. He stressed the importance of standardisation in reducing surgical errors and achieving consistent patient outcomes across diverse surgical settings.

Renowned surgeon Dr Robert Rutledge, Honorary President of the MGB-OAGB Club, echoed Dr Prasad's sentiments, highlighting the transformative potential of standardised techniques based on his extensive experience in MGB surgery since 1997. Dr Rutledge emphasised the role of the conference in advancing certification courses for MGB/OAGB procedures, particularly in diabetes treatment.

The conference showcased groundbreaking advancements in bariatric surgery, including its inaugural Cadaver Surgery Workshops. These hands-on sessions allowed attendees to refine their skills in MGB and OAGB procedures using robotic technology. Dr Abhishek Tiwari, Consultant Surgeon at Apollo Indraprastha Hospital and Organising Secretary of the MGB/OAGB Conference, stressed the commitment to innovation in surgical techniques, highlighting the precision and safety of robotic-assisted approaches.

Dr Kuldeepak Kullar, Founding President and  Organising Co-Chairman of the MGB-OAGB Club, hailed the conference as a crucial platform for collaboration and standardisation in the field. He expressed plans to disseminate knowledge globally and underscored India's leadership in advancing surgical education.

Dr Enrique e Luque de Leon from Mexico will now assume leadership of the conference. Dr. Enrique, in accepting the chairmanship, expressed his commitment to continuing the mission of standardising MGB/OAGB surgery techniques globally and advancing patient care.

The 7th Annual MGB/OAGB Consensus Conference not only facilitated collaboration among global surgeons but also ushered in a new era of standardised practices, poised to enhance patient care worldwide.
