Amazon India Introduces ‘Sushruta’ Health & Wellness Program For Truck Drivers

The program encompasses a range of screenings, including blood tests, eye examinations, and dental checks, aiming to identify and diagnose any health concerns among truck drivers

In a bid to address the healthcare needs of truck drivers and their families, Amazon India has launched ‘Sushruta’, a comprehensive health and wellness program. The company in a press statement on Friday informed that this initiative is designed to cater to the well-being of truck drivers who spend extensive hours on the road, aims to provide health screenings and access to consultations.

The statement further stated that Amazon India collaborates with over 350 trucking partners, employing thousands of truck drivers across the country. The ‘Sushruta’ program is tailored to prioritise the health requirements of these drivers, aiming to raise awareness about long-term health practices beneficial to both drivers and their families. Health camps have been organised in Bengaluru, Manesar (Haryana), and various other locations, offering screenings for over 70 health parameters, the press statement read.

Partnering with NGOs like Premansh Foundation, Anchal Health Centre, and DocOnline, the ‘Sushruta’ program has already seen success with encouraging participation from truck drivers in previous health camps. Arun Kumar Singh, Director of Amazon Transportation Services, India, highlights the program's objective to address the health challenges faced by truck drivers and ensure their well-being.

The program encompasses a range of screenings, including blood tests, eye examinations, and dental checks, aiming to identify and diagnose any health concerns among truck drivers. Awareness campaigns and sessions are also organised during the camps to promote healthy lifestyles. Additionally, drivers receive referral cards along with their health reports, granting access to teleconsultation services for themselves and up to three family members. The referral card also provides access to Anchal Health Centre and affiliated government hospitals for regular health checkups throughout the year.

Thipparaju G, a truck driver from Bengaluru working with one of Amazon’s trucking partners, expresses gratitude towards Amazon for initiatives like ‘Sushruta’, highlighting the reassurance it provides to drivers regarding their healthcare needs.

In 2022, Amazon, in partnership with Lenskart, conducted a pilot program under ‘Sushruta’ focusing on eye care accessibility for truck drivers and support staff. Following its success, Amazon has extended the scope of ‘Sushruta’ this year, expanding the healthcare camps and scope of checkups and tests across various locations., the company added.
