BMC informed the Bombay High Court on Monday that the immunisation effort is proceeding successfully and that it does not expect a third wave of COVID-19 in Mumbai.
Senior advocate Anil Sakhare, who appeared for BMC, informed a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni that over 82 lakh persons had received the first dose of the COVID vaccination and over 42 lakh had received the second dosage.
Sakhare stated that the process of vaccinating individuals is proceeding well. “Now there is no shortage of vaccines too. Mumbai is safe. We do not see a third wave coming,” he continued.
Sakhare further stated that 2,586 bedridden people received both doses of the vaccine, while 3,942 bedridden people received the first injection.
The court heard a PIL filed by advocates Dhruti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari in March, prior to the second wave, to direct the Centre and state to begin door-to-door vaccination for older residents above the age of 75,along with the bed-ridden and specially abled ones.
The justices dismissed the PIL, expressing pleasure with the rate at which vaccination is being delivered, including to individuals who are bedridden.
