Boehringer Ingelheim India, through its Angels Initiative, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RED. Health, a leading emergency care provider, to enhance pre-hospital stroke care services across India. The collaboration aims to ensure timely, effective interventions for stroke patients, addressing a critical gap in emergency medical response.
The MoU was finalised ahead of World Stroke Day, symbolising a joint commitment to improving stroke care protocols and empowering emergency medical teams with advanced training and resources.
India has been witnessing an alarming rise in stroke cases, with stroke now being the fourth leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disability. Timely medical intervention within the "golden period" of 4.5 hours from symptom onset is essential for better outcomes. However, many patients fail to reach hospitals in this critical window. This partnership seeks to improve response times, implement standardised stroke protocols, and deliver advanced training to Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), ultimately improving patient outcomes.
Speaking on the initiative, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Managing Director of Boehringer Ingelheim India, stated, "Organised, timely intervention can transform stroke outcomes. Our collaboration with RED.Health Ambulance Services reinforces our commitment to ensuring every patient receives rapid, high-quality assistance. Together, we are building a healthcare ecosystem that prioritises patient well-being and raises hope for families across India."
Prabhdeep Singh, Founder and CEO of RED.Health, emphasised the impact of the partnership, "Stroke affects over 1.9 million people annually in India, and timely intervention is crucial. Partnering with Boehringer Ingelheim allows us to enhance our emergency response capabilities. This MoU empowers our teams with advanced training and protocols, reaffirming our dedication to providing swift, compassionate care and life-saving support to communities nationwide."
Key components of the MoU include the integration of formal stroke protocols into RED.Health ambulances and the adoption of stroke scales such as FAST (Face, Arm, Speech, Time) to assess patients during transport. Boehringer Ingelheim, through the Angels Initiative, will provide training and support at no cost, facilitating advanced certifications and quality monitoring through a dedicated stroke registry.
