The Union Health Ministry on 10th September declared launch of Application Program Interface (API) developed by the homegrown application Co-WIN. This API is called ‘Know Your Customer’s/Client’s Vaccination Status’ or KYC-VS, which will enable aadhar like authentication service to verify the vaccination status of a person through Co-WIN.
Although Co-WIN already has a feature where as soon as a person gets vaccinated, a digital certificate is generated that can be saved in their devices for later use, but now that offices, malls, hotels, public events have resumed, it has become mandatory to show the certificate first at the entry point.
To make the verification process of vaccination status even more feasible, an individual is required to enter his/her mobile number to receive an OTP. After OTP verification and allowing consent to share the status, Co-WIN will send a response to the verifying entity on the individual’s status of vaccination and will give information showing- 0 - Person is not vaccinated, 1 - Person is partially vaccinated, 2 - Person is fully vaccinated.
The received response will be digitally signed that can be shared with the verifying entity in a matter of seconds. This way a person would not have to share snaps of the certificate, instead it will get digitally conveyed to the entities they are engaging with.
“A real-life example could be when at the time of booking a railway ticket, an individual will input the necessary details for buying the ticket and if required, the concerned entity will also get the vaccination status in the same transaction, with the due consent of the individual,” the ministry stated in the press release.
In addition to this, Co-WIN team has also prepared a webpage with the API that could be embedded in any system and allow quick and easy integration with any other system.
