During the 40th Foundation Day of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh announced the indigenously developed technology for producing paracetamol. Developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), this initiative aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported raw materials, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision. Karnataka-based Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals will use the technology to manufacture affordable paracetamol domestically.
As reported by PIB, Dr Singh highlighted CSIR’s significant role in fostering India’s scientific and industrial growth, citing its achievements, including the development of the 108-petal lotus, hydrogen buses, biofuels, and lavender cultivation under the Aroma Mission. He praised the success of government initiatives like “One Week One Theme” (OWOT) and “One Week One Lab” (OWOL).
During the event, 16 new technologies were transferred under CSIR’s “100 Days 100 Technologies” programme, benefitting MSMEs registered with Laghu Udyog Bharati. These technologies, spanning IoT-enabled instruments and healthcare innovations, aim to strengthen India’s tech-driven industrial landscape.
Dr Singh emphasised the synergy between government and private sectors in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, crediting Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for breaking barriers since 2014. He highlighted achievements like India’s first indigenous antibiotic, Nafithromycin, and successful trials of gene therapy for haemophilia.
Dr N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary DSIR and DG CSIR, underscored the vision of making India a global economic hub by 2047, while Prof A.K. Sood stressed transitioning from a service-based to a product-based economy.
The event showcased India’s commitment to technological advancement, with a call for exploring non-government funding and resource sharing to sustain growth.
