Enhanced Security Measures In Place At AIIMS To Strengthen Security: Dr Pawar Tells Lok Sabha

Dr Bharti Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in a written reply told the lower house that presently 18 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are operational. While answering on the state of the upgradation and installation of information technology (IT) systems at the government's premier hospital in light of recent cyber attacks, Dr Pawar said the upgradation of IT systems in these institutes is taken up as per need and guidelines. 

Explaining the cyber attack incident on AIIMS New Delhi last year Dr Pawar said, "Five physical servers of AIIMS, New Delhi on which e-Hospital application of NIC was hosted were affected by the cyber-attack in November 2022. All the data for e- Hospital was retrieved from a backup server and restored on new servers. Most of the functions of e-Hospital applications like patient registration, appointment, admission, discharge etc. were restored after two weeks of the cyber-attack."

The MoS also informed the house that on the basis of the recommendation of government's cyber security agencies, enhanced security features like endpoint hardening, strong firewall policies, network segmentation, Endpoint Detection & Recovery solution and Network Access Control etc., have been put in place. 

"A Security Command Centre is also established at AIIMS, New Delhi for strengthening data security. The Ministry has issued advisory regarding conduct of security audit on the basis of inputs provided by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) to all AIIMS," the MoS said in the reply.
