There are various lasers available in the market which is widely used in medical practice especially in the field of urology and ophthalmology, and less frequently in dentistry and other specialities. Its use in the treatment of kidney stones and prostate enlargement (BPH)) has taken a steep rise in the last 5 years.
Currently, the lasers used in urology practice are low-watt holmium, high-power holmium, Thulium, Thallium fibre lasers (TFL), Diode and KTP (potassium titanyl phosphate). The Moses laser (p120h Boston Scientific): This is a new innovative high power (P 120) holmium laser used specifically for kidney stones and BPH treatment. This laser works with the principle of plasma bubble in bubble technology through pulse modulation. The bubble helps in the microdissection of the tissue to be removed effectively and fragment/dust the stone in question. This is possible because the physics of the holmium laser has been re-framed to suit the treatment.
