Nadda Returns To Union Health Ministry In Modi Govt 3.0

JP Nadda was sworn in as a cabinet minister on Monday, marking his return to the same ministries he managed during the Modi government's first term from November 2014 to May 2019

In a significant reshuffle, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda has been allocated the portfolios of the Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third consecutive term. Nadda was sworn in as a cabinet minister on Monday, marking his return to the same ministries he managed during the Modi government's first term from November 2014 to May 2019.

Previously, these ministries were overseen by Mansukh Mandaviya during Modi’s second term. Nadda's extensive experience in these areas is expected to bring continuity and expertise to the roles.

JP Nadda, representing Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha since April 2024, has a longstanding political career with deep roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). His journey in politics began with ABVP, eventually leading him to become the BJP’s youth wing president, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), in 1991.

Nadda was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh in 2012 and held significant roles within the BJP, including the National General Secretary in 2010. He was inducted into the BJP's parliamentary board in 2014 and played a key role in the party's election campaigns across several states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Punjab.

In January 2020, Nadda was elected as the full-fledged BJP National President after Amit Shah took charge of the Union Home Ministry. His term as the party president, which ended in January this year, was extended by six months to oversee the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) recently secured 293 Lok Sabha seats, setting the stage for Modi's third term as Prime Minister, despite the BJP falling short of an outright majority. Nadda's return to the cabinet is seen as a strategic move to leverage his expertise and leadership in the crucial sectors of health and chemicals.

JP Nadda's political journey is marked by significant contributions to both his party and the government. His experience and leadership are expected to drive forward critical healthcare initiatives and reforms in the Modi government's new term.
