The fitness industry in India has witnessed a significant surge in service providers, with a remarkable 50 per cent growth in listings on Justdial, India’s leading hyperlocal business search engine, post-pandemic, the company said in a statement on Monday.
The data from Justdial highlights a robust increase in fitness centres across both metro and non-metro cities. Non-metro cities have shown an impressive average growth of seventy-eight per cent, led by Howrah with a staggering 150 per cent increase, followed by Malappuram at 130 per cent, and Jammu at 143 per cent. Meanwhile, metro cities saw an average growth of thirty-one per cent, with Kolkata leading at 61 per cent, followed by Delhi at 44 per cent, Pune at 37 per cent, Bangalore at 36 per cent, and Ahmedabad at 31 per cent.
The trend indicates a shift towards specialised fitness offerings, with listings for callisthenics gyms up by 95 per cent, cardio fitness centres by 103 per cent, strength training centres by 105 per cent, and CrossFit gyms by 75 per cent. Moreover, there has been a notable rise in listings for online personal trainers (102 per cent), online yoga classes (110 per cent), and online Zumba classes (134 per cent), underscoring a preference for digital fitness solutions.
Aside from traditional gym memberships, there is a growing focus on holistic wellness services. Listings for aerobic classes focusing on cardio circuits have surged by 243 per cent, while weight management consultants have seen a growth of 216 per cent. This reflects a broader approach to health that encompasses physical fitness and overall well-being.
Cities like Hyderabad stand out with eighteen fitness centres per ten thousand people, followed closely by Pune with fifteen centres, and Chennai with fourteen centres. The concentration of fitness centres per capita in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad also indicates a robust fitness culture nationwide, with tier-II cities rapidly catching up.
The expansion of fitness offerings across India underscores the industry’s response to increasing health awareness among the population. As businesses adapt to meet diverse consumer needs, the future of the fitness industry looks promising, catering to a health-conscious demographic seeking accessible and varied fitness options, the statement noted.
