The Healthy Indian Project Tackles Health Misinformation At Global Fact 11 In Sarajevo

Organised by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), Global Fact is the world’s largest gathering of fact-checkers, focusing on strategies to combat misinformation

The Healthy Indian Project (THIP), a health information platform in India, recently participated in the 11th Edition of Global Fact, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

Organised by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), Global Fact is the world’s largest gathering of fact-checkers, focusing on strategies to combat misinformation.

The organisation in a press statement on Wednesday informed that , THIP, an official signatory of IFCN, was represented by CEO Sudipta Sengupta and Editor Neelam Singh. The conference saw participation from fact-checkers, journalists, and professionals from 80 countries. Together, they issued the ‘Sarajevo Statement,’ reaffirming their commitment to freedom of expression and access to accurate information.

At the event, THIP’s CEO Sudipta Sengupta moderated a session on Regional Focus and Media Literacy. Editor Neelam Singh joined a panel discussion on misinformation affecting the LGBTQIA+ community, sharing THIP’s efforts to combat health misinformation in India. The discussion addressed the increasing hostility towards women, children, and the LGBTQIA+ community globally.

“THIP is committed to tackling the health misinformation pandemic. IFCN and Global Fact provide invaluable platforms for exchanging knowledge and strategies to increase health literacy. Accurate and reliable health information is crucial to counter the overwhelming amount of viral misinformation,” said CEO Sudipta Sengupta.

“We are grateful to IFCN for allowing us to address the unique challenge of misinformation related to the LGBTQIA+ community. At THIP, we strive to ensure everyone has access to reliable information to empower them and foster a healthy society,” added Editor Neelam Singh.
