In a poignant act of compassion, two daughters from Ghaziabad made the heart-wrenching decision to donate their 72-year-old brain-dead mother’s organs, giving hope and life to three critically ill patients. The organs, including a liver and two kidneys, were successfully transplanted into recipients at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, and PSRI Hospital.
The liver and one kidney were transplanted at Max Hospital Vaishali, while the second kidney was transported to PSRI Hospital in New Delhi via a Green Corridor to ensure timely transplantation. The organ allocation was determined based on medical urgency, transforming lives in the process.
At Max Hospital Vaishali, a 51-year-old male suffering from chronic liver disease received the donated liver, while a 43-year-old female battling chronic kidney disease was the recipient of one kidney. The surgeries were performed by distinguished transplant teams, including Dr. Subhash Gupta, Chairman, Liver Transplant and Biliary Sciences, and Dr. Rajesh Dey, Associate Director, for the liver transplant. The kidney transplant was led by Dr. Anant Kumar, Chairman, Urology Renal Transplant and Robotics, and Dr. Neeru P. Aggarwal, Principal Director of Nephrology.
The donor, a resident of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, was admitted to Max Hospital Vaishali two days before the donation in an unconscious state due to a massive brain haemorrhage. Despite the best efforts of neurologists, intensivists, pulmonologists, and cardiologists, she was declared brain-dead after a comprehensive evaluation. The medical team then approached her daughters, sensitively discussing the potential to save lives through organ donation.
Understanding the transformative impact of their decision, the family consented to donate her organs, enabling life-saving surgeries for three individuals on the transplant waiting list.
