Due to low positivity rate in COVID-19 cases, vitamins sales showed a loss in their overall sale and profit margin. According to World Health Organization (WHO), more than 6 billion doses of vaccination has been administered in India. Since the Coronavirus cases are depleting, consumers are opting for taking fewer health supplements for boosting their overall immunity.
Since Coronavirus cases are decreasing and it is showing less severity as well, people are preferring to consume fewer immunity supplements. Highly popular multi-vitamins tablets Zincovit, Becosules and A to Z sales crashed after May-June as fewer cases are administered. Also, sales of other health supplements are showing a declining rate in their overall sales.
Taking multivitamins is considered the fastest-growing therapy that guards you against such hazardous diseases in the pharma industry since last year. Zincovit were among the top sales of pharma brand.
Statistics
The latest data trends received while survey on patients' billings of health supplements indicate that purchase of multi-vitamins and other health supplements significantly reduced, almost halved during July-August.
Also, there is a downslide of overall sales, from 92 per cent in June 2020 to around 49 per cent in August 2021 is administered. This shows a massive decline in the health supplements sale.
As per Quintiles and IMS Health, Inc. (IQVIA), a healthcare service provider, various health supplements such as Becosules, A to Z and Shelcal manufactured by Pfizer, Alkem and Torrent respectively showed the highest sales of about Rs 30-50 crore. Vitamin D, Vitamin C health supplements also showed high sales due to the emergence of the pandemic.
In the same manner, a study conducted by research firm Pronto Consults, on the billing pattern of retailers showed that retail bills having at least one immunity booster significantly declined to 49 percent from 74 percent since last year in the same month. It further declined to 43 percent in the first week of September. The study was conducted on over 2 lakh bills.
Karima Atul Shah, Pronto Consult founder stated, “There is about 58 percent of the decrease in the purchasing pattern of immunity boosters in August as compared to last year, corresponding to the same month. But, at the same time, we have seen an increase in anti-bacterial and brand-related skin. Also, chronic brands were purchased but it is quite lower as we compared it to last year in August.”
