Bry-Air, the flagship company of the Pahwa Group, celebrated its 60th anniversary by organising its 14th Biannual Eye Camp at Mathra Das Civil Eye Hospital, Moga, Punjab. The initiative, a key part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, aimed to provide accessible eye care to villagers, with a special focus on cataract treatment.
The camp witnessed participation from 698 residents of neighbouring villages, including Bughipura, Mehna, Ghall Kalan, and Singhan Wala. During the event, 81 individuals were identified for cataract surgeries, and over 1,000 free medicines, along with 300 spectacles, were distributed to attendees.
The event was inaugurated by Sanjeev Saini, Chief Patron of Bhartiya Jagriti Munch, Moga. It was also attended by notable figures such as Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, MLA of Moga; Indu Puri, a prominent social worker; and Charanjeet Singh Channi, Mayor of Moga.
The eye camps are a tribute to Rai Bahadur Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa, a visionary and philanthropist renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to eye care. Dr. Pahwa, who performed a record 750 cataract surgeries in a single day, earned titles such as Netra-Dev (God of Eyes) and received prestigious honours including the Padma Shri (1954) and the Kesari Hind Gold Medal (1924).
Since its inception, Bry-Air has organised 124 eye camps, treating 43,079 individuals and performing 3,513 cataract surgeries. The initiative has also facilitated the free distribution of 34,336 medicines and 39,531 spectacles.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Akhtar, CSR Manager at Bry-Air, said, “The 14th biannual eye camp reflects our commitment to improving access to eye care in rural areas. By focusing on cataract treatment, we aim to enhance the quality of life for villagers with limited healthcare access.”
