India: Rich in Culture, Cuisine and Cut-edge Healthcare Service

India has been famous among travellers looking ahead to exploring a new country. It is rich in culture, provides amazing sightseeing locations and variety of cuisines. But travelling to India for quality medical treatment is another purpose to fly down from other countries. India offers everything easily accessible and at a lower price value. This very reason influences foreigners to visit India.

In order to seek the highest quality of health care services along with affordability, patients prefer India over European and southeast Asian hospitals.

“Although India receives patients from all countries across the globe, a high volume of patients visits India for their medical treatment from SAARC Nations, GCC Countries, CIS Countries and Africa. The best in clinical care (infrastructure and clinicians) and affordable prices are considered to be major reasons for this preference. However, of late, patients from US and UK are also visiting our country for treatment due to the rising demand of consultation from expert clinicians, affordable treatment options and the turmoil that the healthcare insurance companies are going through in these countries, “ says Col Hemraj Singh Parmar, Group CEO, BR Life.

Apart from this, the country offers medical tourism packages. Medical tourism is also known as health and wellness tourism. It helps people travel to other countries to access medical, surgical and dental care services from across the globe while some countries include sightseeing in their medical tourism package.

By 2020, the Ministry of Tourism expects the growth in India’s medical tourism to grow by 200 per cent and hitting $9 billion in terms of figure. However, the current estimate is to be worth $3 billion. 10 per cent of the overall revenues is through medical tourism (foreign patients). Countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iraq and Maldives have contributed the maximum number of patients for healthcare services in India. After which India has been getting impressive turnover value from the past 4-5 years.

What makes India a preferred spot for treatment?

Treatment for cardiology, transplants, orthopaedics and ophthalmology along with preventive medicines and best nursing services makes India a preferred spot.

  • Indian doctors are highly skilled and qualified, some of them have international exposure as well.

  • English speaking doctors, guides and medical staff make it easier for the foreign patients to communicate well with them.

  • Low Cost of Treatment when compared to the first world countries like the US and UK. Accessing tertiary medical services are easier in India, even if it is unaffordable in their own country.

  • It is easier to get visas for medical purpose as compared to others. It also includes medical attendant visas which ease the process of medical tourists.

  • The foreign medical tourists are also attracted to the accessibility to immediate services. In private hospitals, surgeries are done almost immediately.

  • Though, India is a developing country, but, with the help of the latest technology available, it provides top-notch and standardized medical services and care.

  • In some cases, patients are provided with post retreatments recovery therapies like Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Yoga.

  • Medical tourist trips also include leisure trip, visiting nature-filled and picturesque places in India after the treatment of the patient.

“Over 4.95 lakh patients travel to India annually for various medical reasons such as cardiac, orthopaedic, neurology, oncology, urology, transplant and other cosmetic surgeries. Ayurveda and Naturopathy are also attracting a lot of patients from other countries to India. We expect this trend to grow and bring more patients as India is now gaining prominence in the global map for its excellent healthcare services and doctors’ expertise,” adds Col Hemraj Singh Parmar

India offers specialized treatments like hip replacement, heart care, eye and neurosurgery in different regions of the country. Every corner of the country is distinct in nature and it also provides a diverse medical facility. With these different regions, patients get exposed to different parts of the country. It makes every medical tourism package exclusive and differing from the other. This not only permits the people from other places to visit this rich land of India and explore its beauty but also helps in generating revenue which will eventually improve the economic condition of the country.
