J&J's Medtech Arm Unveils SILK Procedure For Laser Vision Correction In India

Johnson & Johnson Vision, a part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, has introduced the cutting-edge SILK (Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis) procedure for laser vision correction in India, marking the limited market release and the successful completion of the first laser vision correction surgeries using the SILK procedure in the country.

Designed to address myopia, with or without astigmatism, this procedure utilises laser vision correction technology developed by Johnson & Johnson Vision.

Burzin Shahana, Country Manager, Surgical Vision India at Johnson & Johnson Vision, expressed, “With the introduction of the SILK procedure, our primary objective is to equip surgeons with state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies that instil a high level of confidence in rectifying refractive errors. Additionally, we aim to enhance both the surgical experience and patient outcomes. This significant advancement in corneal refractive technology underscores our unwavering commitment to innovation and to raising the bar for myopia treatment in India."

The company in the statement said that refractive surgery serves as a transformative solution for myopia correction, enabling patients to achieve clear vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

The SILK procedure is a minimally invasive technique performed using a cutting-edge laser vision correction solution that gently creates a small, disk-shaped lens called a lenticule within the cornea which is subsequently meticulously removed through a microscopic incision, allowing for precise corneal reshaping and delivering the flawless vision.
