Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, in association with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, successfully concluded a two-day Movement Disorders Skills Workshop. The event aimed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills through a combination of lectures, hands-on training, live demonstrations, and case discussions.

The workshop featured internationally renowned faculty, including Professor Raymond Rosales from Manila, Philippines, and provided participants with in-depth training on managing movement disorders.

Day 1: From Anatomy to Case Discussions

The program began with sessions on the anatomy and surface marking of commonly injected muscles, clinical and electromyographic techniques, and cadaveric muscle localization. Expert-led interactive sessions focused on ultrasonographic localization of neck, upper, and lower limb muscles.

Dr. Sanjay Pandey, Head of Neurology and Stroke Medicine at Amrita Hospital, highlighted the significance of the first day, saying, "The ultrasonographic localization sessions were a standout feature, providing participants with valuable insights into the precise identification of muscles for therapeutic interventions."

Day 1 concluded with an inaugural ceremony led by Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director of Amrita Hospital, who remarked, "This workshop exemplifies our commitment to advancing medical education and improving patient care. By integrating theoretical learning with practical training, we empower healthcare professionals to deliver cutting-edge treatments for movement disorders."

Day 2: Focus on Advanced Therapies

The second day delved into botulinum toxin therapy fundamentals and hyperkinetic movement disorders, including blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasmodic dysphonia, and dystonias affecting various body regions. Sessions also covered deep brain stimulation (DBS), addressing pre-operative evaluations, patient selection, surgical techniques, programming, and emerging advancements.

A live DBS programming session with a Parkinson’s disease patient marked the conclusion of the workshop, offering attendees practical exposure to the intricacies of advanced therapeutic techniques.
