POSSIBLE WAY TO DECLINE RISK OF COVID: HCQ & PPE

Everyone out in the environment and in human contact are exposed to the deadliest coronavirus. Life around the world has come to a halt and everybody is trying to defend themselves against the global crisis. The novel coronavirus is spreading at a very fast rate and affecting people all over. People are anxious to keep themselves safe and sound. Preventive measures are taken, yet the rate of spreading is increasing on daily basis. 

Scientist and doctors in and around the world have collaborated with each other in the demand to find a vaccine for the deadliest disease. The spread of the virus has trembled the whole world. In efforts to develop a vaccine , the researches are also coming up with ideas and techniques to lower the outspread of the same.

A study, came up with a possible solution to lower the risk of corona virus amongst the health workers. The study talks about , the sustained intake of drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), an anti-malarial drug along with correct and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) can led to notable downfall in the odds of getting infected by the virus.  On Sunday, a case control study was published online in Indian Journal of Medical Research (ICMR), which indicates that consumption of four or more maintenance doses was associated with a significant decline in the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection among the study participants.

“Biologically, it appears plausible that HCQ prophylaxis, before onset of infection, may inhibit the virus from gaining a foothold,” researchers said in the study. The advantage of PPE usage was also independently indicated by the multivariate model, they said. Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at an elevated risk of contracting COVID-19. While intense occupational exposure associated with aerosol-generating procedures underlines the necessity of using personal PPE by them, high-transmission efficiency of the causative agent [severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)] could also lead to infections beyond such settings, the study said.

The study has provided the possible ways to protect and insure the well being of an individual by providing measures. A fight against the virus needs to take place as fast as it can, in order to resume the functioning of the world.
