Policybazaar For Business Partners With YOSI To Protect Young Ophthalmologists From Litigation Risks

PBFB’s decision to partner with YOSI comes after observing a significant uptick in demand for professional indemnity insurance (PI) among Indian ophthalmologists

Policybazaar for Business (PBFB), a leader in customised insurance solutions for healthcare professionals, has announced a new partnership with the Young Ophthalmologist Society of India (YOSI) to help young ophthalmologists safeguard themselves against litigation risks. The collaboration aims to provide affordable and tailored insurance options, addressing the unique needs of these professionals, who are typically under 40 and face significant legal risks due to the nature of their work.

PBFB’s decision to partner with YOSI comes after observing a significant uptick in demand for professional indemnity insurance (PI) among Indian ophthalmologists. Since March 2024, there has been a 75 per cent increase in inquiries from eye specialists in Tier-I cities and a 100 per cent increase from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The surge highlights a growing awareness of the need for specialised insurance products that offer both protection and peace of mind.

Through the collaboration, YOSI members will gain access to exclusive benefits, including comprehensive Doctor’s Professional Indemnity Insurance, which covers amounts ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 3 crore. The insurance premiums will start at Rs 963 annually for non-surgeons and Rs1,181 for surgeons, offering competitive pricing for high-quality coverage.

In addition to the tailored coverage, members will benefit from a dedicated medico-legal support panel, available within four hours of an incident, providing expert legal guidance when required. The collaboration also includes 24/7 claims and legal assistance, ensuring that professionals can resolve disputes and manage medico-legal challenges with ease.

“This partnership is a milestone in our mission to empower medical professionals across India,” said Sajja Praveen Chowdary, Director and Head of PBFB. “We understand the unique challenges doctors face, especially young surgeons, and our goal is to provide them with a complete suite of insurance solutions. With a dedicated relationship manager for all professional and personal insurance needs, we offer 360-degree coverage to help our members manage both their professional and personal risks.”

Dr. Aditya Sethi, a Gurgaon-based ophthalmologist and member of YOSI, emphasised the importance of this initiative for young professionals. “Young surgeons may not have the financial resources to withstand a major legal challenge, and this insurance will allow us to practice with more confidence and precision. It’s an invaluable resource that can help us become better doctors,” he stated.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward enhancing insurance accessibility and awareness for young ophthalmologists across India.
